According to Courthouse records, the land for Don and Nancy Harrelson’s Victorian Bungalow was purchased by Miss Barton (Bartow) Wynn from J.H. Dent in 1904 for $440.00 and the home first appears on Sandborn Maps in January 1906. The 1910 Census indicates that the single Miss Barton Wynn was head of the household that included her teenage nieces, Nora and Bartie Fleming who later inherited the home. It was interesting to Nancy to see a notice in the Newnan Herald in September, 1915 that “Miss Bartie Fleming will open a kindergarten at her home, 76 College Street on Sept.13. Hours from 8:30 am. to 12 noon. Her terms are $2.50 per month”. The home had been renovated by the Paine Family before Don and Nancy purchased it in 2017. Because Nancy is a Coweta County Master Gardener Extension volunteer the Harrelsons have focused their attention to the yard surrounding the home. Nancy was able to save old shrubs and trees and has added additional native and pollinator friendly plants. She likes to use natural materials from the yard in her decorations. Don and Nancy love living with furniture and décor inherited from their families. Nancy’s father was a hobby woodworker and made several pieces that you will see. There is a variety of art work created by Nancy, her children and grandchildren as well as friends. Many of the Christmas tree ornaments are from Nancy’s family. In the office you will see Christmas stockings that belonged to Nancy and her sister.
