This circa 1907 traditional style home exemplifies modern southern charm. It’s owners, John and Barbara Kookogey, have owned this home, in which they raised their three children, since 1996. They moved one block over from Wesley Street because they did not want to leave the neighborhood but need a bigger house. The house was built by Mr. M.G. Keith at the same time the neighboring house to the east that faces College St. was built. Both properties were rental properties for many years. There have been five previous owners of the home, including Charles “Grub” and Estelle Griffith, who lived in the home from 1958-1996, when the Kookogeys bought it. Over the past 26 years, the Kookogeys have done many updates. The first order of business was to tear off the screened- in front porch and window awnings that were hiding the house. New porch railings were installed to bring back the beauty and openness of the rocking chair front porch. The kitchen was remolded in 2003. In 2016, a family room with a wood-burning fireplace was added, along with a laundry room and an upstairs master bathroom which has a clawfoot tub from the Scott home at 43 Temple Avenue. The back porches and backyard, lovingly landscaped by Barbara, complete the inviting southern charm of this home.
