When T. G. Farmer purchased this home from W. B. Orr in 1884, it was a one-story dwelling. According to the Herald and Advertiser in May of 1890, “Mr. T. G. Farmer is remodeling his residence on College Street. The addition of another story and change of the roof adds greatly to its appearance. The work is in the hands of Mr. O. W. Albright, the contractor.” In 1909 the home was owned by R. J. Stewart. The Newnan Herald and Advertiser reported, “The residence at 26 College Street, occupied by Mr. C. P. Bell and his son-in-law, Mr. Noah Wilson, caught on fire Wednesday morning.” Burn marks remain on wood found in the attic. Mark and Lisa Lee purchased 26 College in 2019 and are slowly (operative word) refurbishing the home. The ceiling light fixtures were purchased by Lisa and then re-wired and re-built by Mark. They plan to re-open the staircase and restore the second-story porch, which was not replaced after the 1909 fire. An original doorway was found and opened, leading from the front parlor to the dining room. Mark built a beverage space in the alcove that was revealed in the doorway. During the holidays, all projects are put on hold as Christmas decorating begins!
